WE ARE NOT OUR POLITICAL BELIEFS

Yesterday while out enjoying the Ocktoberfest in Mt. Angel, OR I met the most interesting woman.  Her name was Nancy.  My husband and I have gone every year for 10 years to enjoy the beer/wine and the Bavarian music, never once having an extended conversation with anyone until now.

While we like to be out attending festivities every weekend during this time of year, we rarely make an effort to meet new people. I'm not sure if it's because I feel it's intrusive or if I'm just too lazy.  Either way, we come home after each event having enjoyed ourselves but never expending any energy to meet someone new.

The same process would have taken place this time as well had it not been for Nancy.  She initiated a conversation about my iphone, asking if I liked it.  Her companion Dave had one and she just did not get what the big deal was all about.  One topic led to another and before you knew it we were well on our way to a mini conversation.  I must confess when Nancy first started talking to us, I was a little annoyed.  We came to do what we do every year and here was this person across from me refusing to stop asking questions.

It was at this juncture that I wondered about her politics.  Now where did that come from??  I am a very conservative individual and found myself labeling Nancy as a liberal because she just kept yapping.  Did I not look sufficiently disinterested in continuing this conversation?? I must confess that after awhile, Nancy wore me down and I actually found myself enjoying her enthusiasm for life and wondering why I did not embrace this tactic.

Nancy stated that she owned her own business which caused her to travel quite a bit.  She uses this opportunity to meet people in the airports and hotels.  It does not appear that she is looking for long term acquaintances because she referred to it as the "no deposit, no return" philosophy.  She does not ask for last names, addresses or phone numbers.  Nancy simply enriches her life a little more by having touched the life of a stranger.

All too soon Nancy left our table dancing her way down the isle with a semi inebriated stranger.  Laughing and reaching out to seize the moment.  I was a little bereft at the loss of her energetic zeal.

Soon after my husband and I also left.  As we were meandering thru the throngs of people and checking out the various vendors my husband noticed the Mayor of Silverton, OR, Stu Rasmussen, a transgender man.  Some of you may have seen him in the news for his risque attire at a youth function.  It was at this particular moment that I decided to take a page out of Nancy's playbook and chase the mayor down and introduce myself.

While I admit that I believe Stu's attire to the youth function was totally inappropriate and most obviously out of step with the city's dress code, I must concede his right to examine his inner self and live his life accordingly.  After all the city voted him mayor by a landslide knowing exactly who he was.  I found the mayor to be congenial and he even consented to have his photo taken with me, knowing full well it would probably end up on the internet.  My suggestion to Stu would be to dress more conservatively while attending public functions.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH ONLY FOR THE LEFT

I recently posted a link to Glenn Beck's website on my Facebook Wall, encouraging individuals to play his comedy tour clip and to actually watch his TV show and form their own opinion.  Below is the only comment I have received thus far and thought even though obviously dated news I would none the less respond via my blog.

"Kanye West called President Bush a "racist" shortly after Hurricane Katrina swept through New Orelans. Glenn Beck says President Obama has a "deep seated hatred for white people or the white culture." Kanye West is an entertainer and I hold little regard to what he says. Beck calls a sitting president of the United States a racist, and I'm supposed to take that right wing entertainer seriously??? I'm not calling Beck names. He is who he is: a right wing nut job out to make money by capitalizing on FEAR. There used to be a time when the conservatives in this country had William Buckley to argue logically and rationally on their behalf. Now, we're reduced to sound bites, Beck calling a the president a racist and comparing the United States to Nazi Germany. I used to hear that intellectual vomit spewing from the left wing wackos when Bush was in power. Now, I'm hearing it from the right wing and it's now considered "facts" that cannot be disputed. Wow, GOP. How far you have fallen!"
Glenn Beck did in fact call the president a racist and when asked to clarify he sited the 20 years Obama spent in Jeremiah Wright's church listening to sermons from an obvious racist.  If Wright was espousing views that he did not agree with, Obama would not have spent 20 years sitting in the pews of that church.  Additionally, Glenn Beck sited Van Jones, whom Obama appointed the Green Jobs Czar or advisor, you choose the term.  Van Jones is a Black Nationalist with Black Liberation ideology.  This is no coincidence.  Obama's close advisor and good friend, Valerie Jarrett, has publicly stated that they have been watching Van Jones since his days in Oakland.  By the way, Van Jones is a self avowed communist.  His radical views are recent and documented.  Given this information I look back to Obama himself during the campaign when he states that you will know him by the people he surrounds himself with.
Brian Kilmeade on Fox and Friends did assert that Obama does not only have black advisors.  Really??  And my question would be what is that suppose to prove?  Obama is all about the grab for power.  He will surround himself with the individuals that he feels will help him accomplish that goal.  You saw how quickly he dumped Rev. Wright when it was not expedient to maintain that relationship.  His racism takes a back seat to his need for power.
My friend goes on to ask if he is suppose to take the right wing entertainer seriously.  My response is a resounding YES.  This particular entertainer constantly challenges his viewers and radio listeners to research and ask the tough questions.  Beck does not expect you to believe his every word unlike someone we know.
He goes on to say that he's not calling Beck names, but then in typical liberal fashion states 'He is who he is: a right wing nut job out to make money by capitalizing on FEAR.  This is my favorite part.  I am of the opinion that my friend has just as much right to call Beck a "nut job" as Beck does to call the president a "racist".  There is no difference. Just because Obama is president, he should not be, nor is he excluded from criticism.  The left try to make any dissenting opinion all about race because Obama is black.  Remember that pesky little thing called "Freedom of Speech".  I relish the fact that I have the right to be offended, as well as the right to offend in spite of the PC police.
I do not care if he is purple.  I fundamentally disagree with his policies and feel that they are detrimental to this country.  I further understand that if individuals like Glenn are pointing out opposing views, the left call it fear mongering.  I call it being informed and an attempt at transparency that the Obama administration does not provide. The White House does not challenge you to research and investigate their data. In fact the opposite is true.  They want you to trust that they have your best interest at heart.  This little factoid is true for both left and right.  If you are in the habit of trusting that the government has your best interest at heart, you need your head examined!
I have to say that I am entertained by my friend's colorful language, ie "intellectual vomit spewing..... now considered "facts" that cannot be disputed."  Again, obviously someone who has never watched Glenn Beck's show.  I wonder what left wing...ooops main stream media that term came from?  Beck constantly begs the White House to dispute his facts.  You know what they have come up with?  They want him to call the czars, advisors.
And last but not least the comment "Wow, GOP.  How far have you fallen!"  Amazingly enough I ask myself that very same question but for a totally different reason.  Are there any conservatives left in the GOP??  To my friend (hopefully we are still friends after this) I have to say, check your facts.  Glenn Beck is not a Republican.  Haven't you noticed, that the GOP wants nothing to do with him?  Doesn't this make you wonder exactly who is doing the intellectual vomit spewing??
Since my original post I am pleased to announce that Van Jones has been forced to resign.  The most popular reasons I have heard is because he signed a petition for the 9/11 Truther's and he called Republican's A..holes.  Now I ask you, does anyone really care that he called Republican's A...Holes???  Not once today have I heard anyone say it's a good thing that we no longer have a self avowed communist in the White House within spitting distance of the president.  Am I the only one who thinks having communists in the White House is a bad thing?
I think Mike Pence is on to something when he asked for a halt to the czar fiasco.  What kind of vetting process is going on here?  Is the president allowed to just appoint any thug he wants?  Make no mistake, Obama knew Van Jones was a thug.

Islam, A Religion of Peace or Violence

I recently received the comments below in an email.  I found it so disturbing that I wanted to share it's contents.  I constantly hear the phrase "radical Islam"  and I always thought that the killing of infidels was a part of this scenario.  After readiing this article I am left to believe that the killing of non-believers is still taught as an integral part of the Islamic faith.   Not being a Muslim, I welcome all commentary to verify or dispute the claim that all non-belivers are infidels and that the killing of said infidels is a Muslim's ticket to heaven

The Muslim religion is the fastest growing religion per capita in
The United States , especially in the minority races!!!

Allah or The Lord Jesus Christ?..... By Rick Mathes

Last month I attended my annual training session that's required
For maintaining my state prison security clearance. During the
Training session there was a presentation by three speakers
Representing the Roman Catholic, Protestant and Muslim faiths, who
Explained each of their beliefs.

I was particularly interested in what the Islamic Imam had to say.
The Imam gave a great presentation of the basics of Islam, complete
With a video.

After the presentations, time was provided for questions and
Answers. When it was my turn, I directed my question to the
Imam and asked: "Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand
That most Imams and clerics of Islam have declared a holy jihad
[Holy war] against the infidels of the world and, that by killing an
Infidel, (which is a command to all Muslims) they are assured of a
Place in heaven. If that's the case, can you give me the definition of an
Infidel?"

There was no disagreement with my statements and, without
Hesitation, he replied, "Non-believers!" I responded, "So, let me make sure
I have this straight. All followers of Allah have been commanded to kill
everyone who is not of your faith so they can have a place in heaven.
Is that correct?"

The expression on his face changed from one of authority and
Command to that of "a little boy who had just been caught with his
Hand in the cookie jar."

He sheepishly replied, "Yes." I then stated, "Well, sir, I have a real
problem trying to imagine Pope John Paul commanding all Catholics to kill
those of your faith or Dr. Stanley ordering all Protestants to do the
Same in order to guarantee them a place in heaven!" The Imam was
speechless!

I continued, "I also have problem with being your 'friend' when you
And your brother clerics are telling your followers to kill me!
Let me ask you a question. Would you rather have your Allah, who tells you
to kill me in order for you to go to heaven, or my Jesus who tells me
To love you because I am going to heaven and He wants you to be there with
me?"

You could have heard a pin drop as the Imam hung his head in shame.
Needless to say, the organizers and/or promoters of the  'Diversification'
training seminar were Not happy with Rick's way of dealing with the
Islamic Imam and exposing the truth about the Muslims' beliefs.

In twenty years there will be enough Muslim voters in the U.S. To
Elect the President! I think everyone in the U.S. Should be required to
read this but with the Liberal justice system, liberal media and the
ACLU, there is no way this will be widely publicized.

Please pass this on to all your e-mail contacts.

This is a true story and the author, Rick Mathes, is a well known
Leader in prison ministry.
